The Versailles Gardens, laid out in 1661 and owned by to King Louis XIV, represents the royal nature of the French gardens. These gardens are abundant with flowers in full bloom, punctuated with sculptures. The expansive lawns and numerous fountains add splendor. The geometric designs are of various shapes — triangles, rectangles, circles and squares. The shrubs and bushes clipped to a low height form these geometric shapes. The inside of the designs are filled with colorful flowers, lawn grass, herbs and vegetables, which are schematic. These do not form the permanent features of the gardens except the hedges.
